Figueira da Foz

is the capital of the coast in the region of the Silver Coast. The population is over 60,000 but of course, swell dramatically during the tourist season. It is a beautiful coastal town that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. Figueira is very popular because it is very picturesque: there are plenty of gorgeous beaches, a fantastic port, and a casino. It's a good idea to visit here during spring summer or autumn because the weather is wonderful during this time. As well as being a picturesque town, Figueira is an ideal place to get away from the crowds and relax with your family or friends.

 

A good thing to visit is the famous Barracks, which was built by the French during their brief occupation of Figueira in the nineteenth century. The town also has a modern port with ferries and boats that link it to the rest of the world. Tourists coming here will find the whole town is very photogenic: with picturesque old villages, fantastic shoreline, beautiful gardens, and superb buildings - many made with white limestone. There are also some beautiful places to explore: the port area offers you a chance to snorkel and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of Figueira bay with its serene lagoons; you can visit Figueira Cathedral and the Maritime Museum.

You will find all the modern amenities you could imagine in Figueira da Foz, as well as more ancient ruins and rich history. Tourists often fly into Lisbon and take a boat across the sea to Figueira to explore the beaches and the churches. If you prefer to stay closer to home, then a ride from the city to the village of Figueira is a great way to experience the town and see the beautiful beaches and villages.

The city is slightly closer to Porto 140km than it is to Lisbon 198km. It is a county town and has the following councils under its jurisdiction.
